FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0048) 25 September 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: CHAN, Chang Ku (張昌極)
RANK: Pvt
ORGANIZATION: 559th Ind Arty Bn, Mortar Co
DUTIES: Mortar Gunner
EDUCATION: None
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 21 Sep 50 at SU SEK (水色)
INTERROGATOR: Pfc TAKEUCHI


2. ASSESSMENT:
Subject was cooperative. Information considered fairly reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
PW inducted on 12 Aug 50 at SARI WON (沙里院). Received no training while with the 8th Bn (regt unknown) for 12 days at SARI WON (沙里院).
On 24 Aug 50, subject and 4 men of the 8th Bn were transferred and assigned to the 559th Arty Bn at BON SON (鳳山). Received 20 days of training with this unit. While receiving training subject observed 3 Russian officers who were believed to be field grade officers (Lt Colonels and Colonels). These officers were last seen on 30th Aug 50 at BON SON. Believes that these officers were supervising the training of the 559th Bn.
The 559th 3n comprised of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the mortar company. Commander of this Bn was a Major. The mortar co was equipped with 2 mortars and rifles only.
The Bn strength was believed to be approx 600 men. On 15 S 50 this Bn moved to SU SEK (水色) where the mortar company was engaged in battle on 21 Sep 50. The mortar company was annihilated at this point. However, PW believes that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd companies retreated to unknown places without many casualties.

4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
Heard from citizens of SARI WON that the CCF were engaged in battle at the TAEGU front.
