Dear Mr. President:

It is good to have your kind letter of June, inclosing therewith copies of the communications to you from Ambassador Muccio, dated 6 June, and from the UNCURK, dated 7 June.

I have noted the suggestions made by the UNCURK for you “to seek immediately the cooperation of the UNC in making these investigations, “also Ambassador Muccio’s suggestion for you to request the cooperation of the UNC.

In connection with these suggestions, you have asked for my opinion, stating that as far as you are concerned it would be all right in either way.

After careful consideration, it is my opinion that the United Nations Command should not become involved in these investigations. I would welcome, however, being kept advised of any communist plot discovered within the territory of the Republic of Korea.

I trust that you and Mrs. Rhee are keeping well and rested and that soon you will have the time to visit Seoul and the battle front.

6월 8일 보내주신 친절한 편지 잘 받았습니다. 6월 6일 있었던 무초 대사와 대통령 간의 대화, 6월 7일, 유엔한국통일부흥위원단에서 대통령께 보낸 서신의 복사본이 포함되어 있었습니다.

나는 이들 사건 조사에 있어서 당신에게 즉시 유엔사령부와 협조할 것을 방법을 찾을 것을 권한 유엔한국통일부흥위원단, 또한 당신에게 유엔사령부와 협조를 요청한 무초의 제안들이 의미하는 바를 알아챘습니다.

이러한 제안들과 관련해서, 당신께서는 어떤 방식도 좋다라고 이야기하며, 이에 대한 제 의견을 물어오셨습니다.

심사숙고 끝에 내린 제 의견은, 유엔사령부는 이러한 조사들에 관여하지 않을 것이라는 것입니다. 그러나 대한민국 영토 내에서 어떠한 공산주의자들의 음모라도 발견될 경우에는 언제라도 조언을 아끼지 않을 예정입니다.

당신과 이 여사(프란체스카), 모두 잘 지내시면, 곧 서울과 전선을 방문할 시간이 다가올 것이라는 점을 약속드립니다.
